Sabae City, Fukui

MADE IN

SABAE CITY, JAPAN

In the rugged mountains near the rocky coastline of Fukui prefecture is Sabae, a town with deep roots in traditional craftsmanship.

Lacquer wares, forged steel knives, paper, and — most notably — eyewear all enjoy a long, storied history here.

After World War II, eyewear manufacturing swelled in Sabae, as the entire country experienced a period of rapid economic growth.

Today, one in six of Sabae's residents work in the eyewear industry.

Our connection to Japan is integrally linked to eyewear. We first visited the island nation in 2003, and we have eagerly returned ever since to build relationships with master craftsmen.

Focusing on eyewear design and manufacturing, we continue to learn from these experts. We have built friendships and developed a deep respect for the locals' love of their craft.
